Chant Driving Down the Cost of Calibration
Chant Engineering Co. Inc. made some exciting changes to its calibration and service department to provide better service and to save money for their customers.
Testing machines are profit centers for rigging shops, but it doesn’t mean you have to pay more for calibration. Inflation has hit every industry and the Lifting and Rigging industry is no exception. With fuel costs on the rise and unreliable delivery times, trucking costs continue to increase. Rather than passing these costs on, Chant addressed the problems by purchasing two new dedicated calibration vans to complement their two existing trucks.
These calibration vans are fully outfitted with calibration equipment and spare parts for all customer’s machines. With four vehicles Chant can now cover the entire country, eliminating most shipping costs and passing the savings on. With the largest calibration team in the industry, Chant’s team can meet customers’ needs in a timely fashion. They can assure that testing certifications are accurate and in compliance with and traceable to Government Standards.
Chant also offers additional savings to customers with long-term contracts and being on a calibration schedule. Chant offers four levels of calibration contracts, one-, three-, and five-year contracts, and long-term corporate contracts for large companies. Long-term Chant contracts offer free Chant DataTEST™ software upgrades, keeping your equipment up to date.
Calibration is very important. It ensures your testing is accurate and protects your company as much as possible in the event of a customer’s product failure or accident. Protecting your business by having accurate, traceable records stored of every test run on your machine is in effect, a very inexpensive insurance policy.
The ASTM-E4 standard requires calibration based on usage, but not longer than 18 months. If it’s a heavily used machine, then your procedures may require re-calibration sooner. In general, Chant recommends calibrating once a year as a good benchmark for most companies. Also, when your machine is calibrated, Chant technicians are doing a complimentary functionality check of the machine and look for problems. This allows you to do preventive maintenance before a problem stops your production.
Put your trust in an experienced calibration team. Chant successfully calibrates machinery for hundreds of customers worldwide. Chant holds a Certificate of Accreditation, in accordance with the recognized International Standard: ISO/IEC 17025:2017, from Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation, Inc. ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is an International Standard designed for the Accreditation of Testing and Calibration Laboratories. This accreditation confirms that Chant Engineering Co. Inc. demonstrates technical competence for a defined testing scope and the operation of a laboratory quality management system for Force Calibration. Their equipment is calibrated to ISO-7500, which is the International Standard for calibration similar to ASTM-E4. Typical practice is to calibrate equipment in North America to ASTM-E4 and International machines to ISO 7500. If a large part of your business is International; you may consider calibration to ISO 7500. Chant calibrates to both standards. ISO 17025 is the standard for calibration laboratories. This certification ensures the organization that is performing your certification is accredited and deemed technically competent to calibrate your machines. Chant is an Accredited ISO 17025 Calibration Laboratory.
